Tony Joseph started the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA CHAPTER of the National Council for Geocosmic Research in the 1970s. The chapter has hosted lectures, workshops and conferences since its inception.
For many years we met at Fort Mason Center – a former military facility converted to an arts complex. In 2020, we will meet at the Berkeley Finnish Hall Community Center (check back for updates). If circumstances require social distancing check our website to see if the event has become a webinar instead.
Steve Pincus became President of the SF Chapter in 1985 and through his devotion and the efforts of many others NCGR-SF continues to thrive. After one Saturn cycle he’s become President Emeritus and in 2016 Cathy Coleman was elected President. Read about the current Board Members here.
Our parent organization is the The National Council for Geocosmic Research, Inc., (NCGR) a non-profit organization with whom the San Francisco chapter shares the vision to raise the standards of astrological education and research. Though it began as “national,” NCGR’s current membership of about 2500 includes a growing number of international members.
NCGR national’s activities include sponsoring local Chapters (currently 28 located in 26 states and 4 countries). Additionally, several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) cross wide geographical areas to foster dialogue among people of similar astrological specialties.
Professionally certified astrologers among NCGR members have passed all four levels of an education and testing program based on a comprehensive curriculum widely respected for its excellence and rigor.
Though there is no requirement that NCGR members be practicing astrologers, over 1000 members have participated in the testing program at Level 1 or above and momentum is growing.
A Code of Ethics, to which members are accountable, provides guidance for the practice of astrology.
NCGR annually sponsors an educational conference, and publishes two issues of its magazine Geocosmic Journal plus six newsletters, MemberLetter. A variety of other publications are produced intermittently, and recordings of conference lectures are also offered.
