This year’s Spring Equinox has special meaning because it occurs with the Sun conjunct Saturn and Neptune in Aries, the sign of spring rebirth, the surge of life, and the impetus to action. It’s time to shake off the discouragement, lethargy, and overwhelm of Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and to meet the challenges of the moment joining the grounded, strategic consciousness of Saturn with the spiritual heart, openness, translucency, and compassionate intention of Neptune.
As a planetary pair, Saturn-Neptune signifies structural uncertainty, discontentment, chaotic transition, liminality, and what Victor Turner terms “anti-structure.” Their current conjunction signifies a time of economic and environmental turbulence, social unrest, disinformation, illusions, lies and propaganda, and dysfunction of various systems and institutions, a time when many people are coping with a feeling of “things falling apart.”
This Saturn-Neptune alignment is also an opportunity to do some intensive spiritual work, to meditate, abide in the still point, and cultivate equanimity in response to change and impermanence.
Following an approach that is both practical and mystical, we’ll discuss how astrology can help us form adaptive responses to the stressors in our midst, bear the disappointments of life, and remain steady and resilient while working to actualize our dreams and ideals, to benefit the world and alleviate suffering.
We’ll explore the Aries conjunction mythologically, considering teachings from the Mahabharata, which depicts the tasks of individuation in a world of rivalry, aggression, corruption, and skullduggery. We’ll consider where the Aries conjunction falls in the natal chart to identify where we can set things in motion and become an active force as we face the eye of the storm. We’ll also consider hopeful future possibilities that exist through the upcoming harmonious alignment of Neptune in Aries with Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius.
